Ceremony of the Memorial Day dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Khojaly Genocide was held on the 23rd of February in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The event organized by Embassy of Azerbaijan to United Arab Emirates and Consulate General in Dubai and Northern Emirates took a start commemorating the memory of victims of Khojaly Genocide with an one-minute silence.

Dashkin Shikarov, an Ambassador of Azerbaijan to UAE, in his speech  noted that Armenian armed forces committed a genocide act against peaceful people on the night of 25th of February to the day of 26th February in the town of Khojaly. Population of the city for being ethnically Azerbaijani was massacred by Armenian troops. Criminal militaries of Armenian committed inconceivable barbarism and adults, children and women were inflicted reprisals in Khojaly.

Ambassador put the reality to the attention hat Armenian troops invaded 20 percent of territory trespassing to the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh of Azerbaijan. Though he stated that Azerbaijan support to solve peacefully under territorial integrity of conflict and norms or international law, Armenia recently did not withdraw policy of invasion. The Ambassador informing on “Justice for Khojaly” campaign realized by initiation of Leyla Aliyeva, vice – president of Heydar Aliyev Foundation wanted all peace lover countries and peoples all over world justice for Khojaly. The Ambassador noticed that Khojaly massacre was recognized as a criminal act by different countries of the world and stressed that this was a success of foreign policy of Azerbaijan.

Parviz Ismayilzada, Consul General of Azerbaijan in Dubai city in his speech noted: “the Khojaly genocide is one of the most terrible and tragic pages of Azerbaijan history”.  He also stated that, on the night of 25th of February to 26th in 1992, 613 people including 106 women, 63 children, 70 old men were special cruelly, mercilessly killed, the bodies were degradedly treated, life of 8 families was ended, 487 peaceful residents were seriously wounded, 1275 peace residents were taken hostages, the fate of 150 of them is still unknown as a result of military aggression of Armenian armed forces converse to norms of international law. He stressed that National Leader Heydar Aliyev dignified with the initial political - legal estimation. By initiative of the National Leader, Heydar Aliyev, the 26th of February was proclaimed “the Day of Khojaly Genocide” according to Resolution dated 24th of February in 1994 of Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

At the end of his speech, Consul General expressed that the policy to put the Khojaly Genocide, in general the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict between Armenia-Azerbaijan to the attention of world society actually continues under the leadership of Ilham Aliyev, the President of Azerbaijan.

  After his speech, the film “Tragedy of Khojaly” specially prepared was shown for the communities of Azerbaijan and press representatives of foreign countries. Consul Generals of Commonwealth of Independent States, representatives of SOCAR, Azerbaijan Airlines, delegations of Diaspora in the city of Dubai, collaborators of Dubai Customs and Skyline University, Azerbaijani students educated in Dubai and Sharjah cities of Emirates, local Mass Media representatives and other guests participated at the above-mentioned event.

 For the purpose of foreign citizens to get detailed information, a little stand and photo slide consisted of books and booklets regarding with the tragedy.
